  • Description: United Way of the Wine Country is proud to announce that this week marks the launch of our collaboration with United Ways of California's new website portal, KinshipCareCA.org, serving California's kinship and foster care families and service providers. We are excited for this opportunity to serve kinship and foster families in our five-county region and to share this resource with you. Here are some of the highlights: What: Funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Children's Bureau was granted to United Ways of California (UWCA) to collect and showcase resources that aid kinship families and the service providers that serve them to create a statewide multi-platform resource website portal. Our local United Way is gathering information, partnering with service providers, and spreading the word about this new resource. KinshipCareCA.org includes location-based resources for respite care, childcare, healthcare, education and many other developmental and quality of life assets. It includes access to resources supporting stability and the fulfillment of basic needs, such as utility, housing and food assistance and covers up to 53 of California's 58 counties and plans to reach remaining counties by the end of the year. Where: KinshipCareCA.org goes live this week, just in time for World Foster Day on May 31. Phone calls and texts will also be supported by a specially trained client support team, with a live chat feature rolling out later in the year. Why: Within this portal, convenient, self-guided searches can be made by caregivers 24/7. Additionally, searches can be monitored by UWCA to better identify the demand for specific resources and create timely data to better inform a more responsive kinship families program network and resource funding allocation. Who: This website launch is the work of a nationally coordinated team effort to create the state's first database collective, unifying disparate foster family resource information. We need your help spreading the word about this new resource! Please help us by sharing KinshipCareCA.org with your clients, fellow caregivers, and your networks.
